Carlyon Bay Beach

This long sandy beach is located between Charlestown and Par Beach. The coastal path runs along the top of the cliff above the beach adjacent to Carlyon Bay Golf Course. This is a pleasant level walk, but parents should note that there are some very dangerous sections next to the cliff.

Unfortunately the beach has been somewhat spoilt for years now by a large scale unfinished development which was halted by the Secretary of State on 2006 following controversy over the development of the Cornish Beach. The firm behind the development, Commercial Estates Group (CEG) plan to build luxury apartments, shops, bars and restaurants developing a beach resort.

If you ignore the development site the beach itself has lots of space with great views across St Austell Bay. The beach shelves quite steeply so the water can become deep quickly.

The beach is accessed via steps which lead down from the car park above.
